siptel takes on the technology at regenerated south London development
A well known, redeveloped structure in London, disused for the past 20 years, is in the hands of developers. The site will be transformed into a premium retail, restaurant, club, café, bar and leisure destination complemented by activities and experiences centred round the theme of design excellence. siptel are working with the developer to provide the communications infrastructure.
Encompassing over 38 acres, the redevelopment site represents one of the largest private urban regeneration projects in Europe. The developer plans to establish a major new commercial, entertainment, cultural and events focus for central London. On the site surrounding the building will be two five star hotels (including one of the largest conference hotels in Europe), over 72,000 square metres of office and product showcase accommodation, 5000+ auditorium and cinema seats and a 700 unit residential component. In addition, on completion the project will involve the creation of some 9000 new jobs.
Being such an exciting new venture and one of the biggest regenerations of London in the next five years, it was very important for the developer to find a reliable and experienced technology supplier. The plans for the site involve a seven storey office building providing 51,000 square metres of office space and incorporating the most advanced IT and telecoms facilities, therefore they needed a communications solution provider who would not let them down.
siptel was chosen to not only plan and consult on the IT project, but also to install, maintain, support and train on the communications system. siptel rose to the challenge set and chose an Avaya and Cisco Voice over IP solution for the developer which caters for 300 users across two sites. siptel has implemented integration to Outlook Exchange, including Unified Messaging, voicemail and call logging. DECT/mobility has also been provided throughout the site, allowing for flexible communication options anywhere within the site. siptel have also started supporting the telecoms equipment for the management and site staff and have provided training support on the new system.
The developers intend to create a vibrant new address for London, a place of architectural, environmental and social significance. This project will take at least three years to complete; in that time, the technology requirements also have the potential for huge expansion and siptel plan to be a part of the project until it is finished.
