Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond 8810 Switch Successfully Validated With Avaya's Market Leading IP Telephony Solutions
As part of its global alliance partnership, Extreme Networks, and Avaya have successfully completed testing of high-performance switching and IP telephony solutions to enable customers to build an open converged infrastructure. Extreme Networks' BlackDiamond® 8810 switch has completed compatibility testing with Avaya's market leading IP telephony solutions and has been awarded validation through Avaya's DeveloperConnection program.
Key areas of the testing included the ability to perform Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization to ensure the smooth delivery of Voice over IP (VoIP) traffic over the network and compliance with 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing the switch to connect and power Avaya's IP handsets and wireless access points from a single port. All QoS test cases proved successful with prioritization functions delivering to expectation. The switch passed all PoE functionality test cases and demonstrated interoperability with Avaya's IP Telephony solutions. The switch successfully powered a variety of Avaya IP telephones including the Avaya IP 4600 Series telephones and Wireless Access Points with PoE.
The BlackDiamond 8800 switch for the first time delivers true voice-class availability at the edge of the network. This enables the concept of the "Universal Jack," a 10/100/1000 PoE port supporting edge authentication, inline power and wireless connectivity. The BlackDiamond 8810 switch addresses gigabit density and performance compromises of the first generation of PoE switches, enabling a two tier network design that allows network managers to more easily add PoE ports with new blades or power modules, instead of having to add entire new switches.
